Shalom Arowosegbe
Board Secretary
Ms. Shalom is a Nigerian humanitarian and registered nurse with a background in psychiatric nursing and medical-surgical nursing at the reputable Duke University Hospital, North Carolina. Her work in the humanitarian field is driven by her love for imparting knowledge, as she believes it to be a tool for lasting freedom.
She is passionate about addressing healthcare disparities that affect marginalized communities and finding lasting solutions. She hopes to create healthcare education accessibility within Nigerian communities as such information is hardly circulated. It is her goal to empower individuals and families through healthcare education so that they may make informed decisions about their health. With her background in nursing, she hopes to raise awareness and create change within the health system. She is equally passionate about helping others unlearn their biases towards mental health, teaching communities about what it means to live with mental illnesses, and building environments of acceptance.
As a humanitarian, she has spent much of her time in partnership with a nonprofit organization, providing support to local orphanages in countries like Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya. These projects often provided food, school supplies, school fees payments, and other life-saving resources. She strongly believes that education can not be received effectively without the proper nourishment, resources, and a safe environment. She has also briefly volunteered in events geared towards bringing awareness to hepatitis A and C. Additionally, she has volunteered her time providing advice to patients with zero to mild depression levels at mental health screening events. She looks forward to creating an impact through her work with Mutual Aim.
